Ruska Photo Sessions with Niki Strbian
As you may know, I love to create family portraits amidst the beautiful blooming trees of Spring. And there’s plenty of joy to be found in photographing with the summer flowers as a backdrop. But mother nature isn’t finished yet - during the first week of October, magic happens once again, and the lush green Finnish nature turns into a vivid display of autumn colours. I photograph my ruska family mini sessions in a beautiful park specially chosen for its perfect and unique aesthetic - it’s a location that’s used as a year-round exhibition of gardening companies and as a practice ground for students of garden architecture.
The backgrounds of my ruska mini session images are full of maple trees, hues of yellow, red and orange. It’s the perfect occasion to throw some leaves, enjoy the last of the warm sun rays, and create some fond family memories in a beautiful location, all being captured to enjoy forever!

Experience. I’ve done this for 10+ years - and whilst there are no guarantees in life, the first week of October is consistently the best chance of great colours + great weather.
Always the big question, especially in Finland. Are we rescheduling the session? Unless it rains cats and dogs, ruska mini sessions are happening in the rain. Think rainboots. I will bring the see-through umbrella. You’ll see rain, wind and sunshine in the example images on this page - it’s never about the weather. We’ll have fun and capture great images in all conditions.
If you kids are extremely shy or scared of strangers, you might consider booking a regular session. However, I have many many years of experience and I’ve shot loads of ruska mini sessions - so I have some tricks up my sleeve.
If you are planning to come with the whole family tree, it’s better to book a regular full session (790€). Share the cost across the adults and get huge value for your money: large group portraits (grandparents with grandkids, each family unit separately, grandparents with adults and children, cousins, all the men in family, all the women in family etc. - anything your heart desires) as well as smaller group portraits (each family unit gets their own family minishoot), and even individual portraits of all participants.
If you get sick or aliens attack Earth, you can reschedule your minisession to the next round of mini sessions, or you can use the payment to upgrade to a regular session, which we can schedule at your convenience. The Petite sessions are 370€, so the upgrade is only 45€.
